Grassy hills. Mountains. Flower fields. All places you, I, we’ve all experience with our own two eyes yet Burn’s twist it upwards towards the Heaven’s through blurred overlays leaving the audience to tap into an imaginative land where a UFO appears above a seemingly normal lake. Or the black shadowy silhouette of a lone cowboy sitting on top of his horse with the same hue. All of this is wrapped in a bow of subtle mayhem. A soft explosion of the senses where Burns takes artistic liberty with reality.
In his own words, “I like to combine the future with the past.” and we see this through the central figures in his designs. From the wild west to another planet. In Burn’s designs we travel to a land where futuristic imaginary, bright science fiction thematics supersede known scenes, familiar places we all recognize. In his arsenal is the use of blurring the image, creating a fuzzy environment where he then amplifies it with bright burst placed strategically throughout the design.
This brightness, blinding light, is in strict contrast with pitch black moments within his art. We’re taken through the full range of colors: the human mind is dropped below ground 6 feet only to be pulled 26 feet above it by Burns use of the otherworldly: Angels to aliens, erupted volcanoes to clouds, UFOs to birds.
There’s a spiritual, science fiction undertone.
And one with any sense knows the difference in those two terms but Burns puts them into a cauldron. Melting the holy into the extraterrestrial, stirring the historic with the futuristic only to pour out the mixture into his design, leaving us with a flawless vision of how he sees the world we call home. One must imagine Burns sitting on the hill top, looking into the distance of trees and mountain raises, only to see something that none of us can see: Bright explosions in the clouds, aliens being raised to the heavens.
One can count on seeing something MORE in life when looking at the Art and designs created by Burns. We can find inspiration in his creations. A world were nothing is boring. A land full of surprise and opportunity. Dark and White, Bright and Dim, real and surreal, Burns shows us the potential directions are imagination will take us if we only stop, look out into the world and play with it.
